Evidence review of the five precision wavelengths

Published research has assessed these wavelengths, or closely related blue-light wavelengths, using methods such as lesion counts, standardised photography, wrinkle-volume measurements, skin profilometry and tissue analysis.

• 460 nm blue light: Controlled studies of blue LED light in the approximately 405–470 nm range have assessed acne-prone skin using inflammatory-lesion counts and blinded photographic review. Results are encouraging, but wavelength, dose and device design vary between studies. View study
• 590 nm yellow light: A split-face randomised controlled trial compared 590 nm amber light with 660 nm red light over ten sessions. Both treatments reduced periocular wrinkle volume, while hydration and viscoelasticity did not significantly change. View study
• 633 nm red light: A randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind study evaluated 633 nm alone, 830 nm alone and the two wavelengths combined against sham treatment, using clinical assessment, profilometry and tissue analysis. View study
• 830 nm near-infrared light: In the same controlled study, 830 nm was assessed independently and together with 633 nm, with reported improvements in measures associated with skin rejuvenation. View study
• 1072 nm deep near-infrared light: A small clinical trial evaluated non-thermal 1072 nm light around the eyes and reported improvements in visible signs of ageing. The evidence is preliminary because the study was small and relied on participant-reported outcomes. View study
